李珺Li Jun
Jun’s artistic practice focuses on the in-between states of stability and instability, presence and absence. She extracts images and everyday objects from their original contexts and places them within scenes marked by displacement, allowing tension to emerge between intimate experience and structures of looking. Through this process, their inherent ambiguity, irony, and self-reflexive qualities come to the surface.
In her paintings, objects, partial bodies, and spatial structures recur, forming relationships that both contain and constrain. These elements function simultaneously as vessels and as boundaries: they receive emotion while delaying its direction, shifting the focus away from clearly narratable events. The disappearance of specific figures is not a withdrawal from reality, but a turn toward forms of presence that continue to operate through space, order, and material relations.
Her work engages with broader cultural and historical contexts, with particular attention to how gendered identities are constructed and transmitted through symbolic forms. Through her treatment of visual traditions, material details, and spatial organization, she examines how culture, in indirect and internalized ways, shapes positions of looking and understandings of belonging and difference. These processes also reflect the ongoing operation of cultural power within visual experience and everyday perception.
